BASIC LESSON PLANS

LESSON PLANS | PLOTTING | BACK TO BASE

❚❚❚❚❚ OVERVIEW
In this document, you'll find an overview of what to expect from your classroom education during basic training. Please use this space to work together on write-ups for handwaving and/or planning logging opportunities between Leads and Cadets.

❚❚❚❚❚ LESSON PLANS
Below is a list of current lesson plans turned in by Leads for their respective classes as well as a directory of links for any relevant logs.

Leads: Lesson plans may be turned in either ICly to Shepard or Aeryn, or OOCly using the form below - you do not need to do both unless you'd like to. However, please make sure to turn your lesson plans in in a timely fashion for ease of plotting or handwaving. Lesson plans should ideally be posted no later than three OOC days prior to established lesson dates so we have ample time to keep lists and links updated. That said, there are no repercussion for not posting a lesson plan - it just makes it easier for everyone to plot in one place.

Please fill out the form below and post it in the appropriate thread. When posting, please remove the ! from your interior text area codes for ease of copypasta. Any plans you post will be transferred here for quick reference.

✖ PHYSICAL FITNESS EVALUATION #1 (Phase 1)
LEADS: L. Shepard & A. Sun
SUMMARY: The entry level fitness evaluation. This test is to give Leads an idea of the strengths and weaknesses of incoming Cadets for the lessons to come. Cadets can find a detailed list of requirements and a few forms for the lesson HERE. While it's possible to be miserably bad at this evaluation, it's (thankfully) not possibly to fail. You guys can worry about that later
LOG LINK: N/A, however cadets should fill out their evaluation forms HERE for basic records.
IC DATE: Day 61

✖ CLASS: Unarmed Combat Exercises (Phase 1)
LEADS: G. Vakarian & R. Lalonde
SUMMARY: Basic hand-to-hand. Includes punching/kicking/blocking/dodging 101, drilling, sparring practice, throws, and more sparring practice, plus some teamwork exercises.
LOG LINK: Here.
IC DATE: DAY 64

✖ CLASS: OBSTACLE COURSE (PHASE 1)

LOG LINK: Not applicable.
IC DATES: DAY 70

✖ CLASS: TECHNOLOGY 101 (Phase 1)
LEADS: J. Crichton & Dr. L. T'soni
SUMMARY: The most basic of technology courses. This is designed to give characters who are lacking a basic technological background some basics to follow, with a focus on typing, the dangers of electricity, and the operation of household appliances. This course is required for later phases but can be bypassed through an entry exam that will consist of basic technology questions and a measurement of a character's words per minute on the blackglass.
LOG LINK: N/A; If you are bypassing this course, you must link your exam's point of contact, which can be as simple as inboxing John or Liara for a course waiver. Actual logging of the test is not required.
IC DATES: TBA

✖ MAP READING & LAND NAVIGATION (Phase 1)
LEADS: J. Crichton & Dr. L. Tsoni
SUMMARY: The entry level course, focusing on how to read and navigate topological maps. Includes short verbal quiz with motivational rewards (aka Food). Crichton will make himself available for follow-up questioning.

✖ MAP READING & LAND NAVIGATION (Lecture)
LEADS: J. Crichton & Dr. L. Tsoni
SUMMARY: The entry level course, focusing on how to read and navigate topological maps. Includes short verbal quiz with motivational rewards (aka snack food). Crichton will make himself available for follow-up questioning.
LOG LINK: N/A

------

This course will be handwaved. If you would like your character to inquire further about the lesson ICly, feel free to drop a message in the inbox of one of the leads. Cadets will be made aware that a Field Exercise will occur that will include a lesson of how to use the blackglass properly, likely on Macha once they are settled.

The actual character evaluation will occur during the field exercise, so there is no form to fill out for this lesson. Both Liara and John are fairly approachable, and will not come across harshly toward cadets without reason. If your character would be disruptive during this lesson, feel free to reply below.

TEAMWORK DEVELOPMENT COURSE (BASIC)

[personal profile] ex_nearsighted397 2014-11-23 03:08 am (UTC)(link)

✖ CLASS: TEAMWORK DEVELOPMENT COURSE (BASIC)
LEADS: Kaburagi T. Kotetsu & Barnaby Brooks Jr.
SUMMARY: During this module, characters will be run through a number of courses designed to help them get into a teamwork mindset, as well as build upon their actual teamwork skills. Part of this is "classroom" based, the rest will be done out in the field, with a number of different problems that they will need to overcome as a team.

-------

This course will be handwaved, though characters are free to drop notes in either Kotetsu’s or Barnaby’s inbox about these exercises. Further information can be obtained this way if needed, as well as further one-on-one training. Cadets will be run through a number of different training exercises related to team-building activities and trust.

This includes a brief rundown of team-building tenets in order to put them in the right mindset and help cadets remember that which they believe to be most important. Some of what will be covered here includes: Accomplish your mission while looking out for your fellow cadets. Never quit. Believe in yourself and your team. Co-operate. Focus on mission completion, not glory. Persevere!

… All those kinds of blood-pumping ideologies. Tiger & Bunny are all about using teamwork to accomplish your goal; if you thought otherwise, you’re probably on the wrong course. There will be a lot of “we will” and “we can” types of phrasing used. Without teamwork, here you cannot succeed. During the exercises, cadets will find out exactly why that is.

In addition, there are the exercises themselves, which Kotetsu and Barnaby will run them through. These include:

1. CLIFFHANGER
Hopefully, your character doesn’t mind heights. Characters will have five minutes to develop a plan, and will be timed on completion. Their goal is to safely evacuate planetary specimens that will help with research back at base camp. However, getting back isn’t quite so easy. Characters are facing a large cliff which they must climb, not only getting themselves but their teammates and the samples over safely. Once they have made it to the top of the cliff, a broken bridge with a few too many planks missing awaits them.

Characters will be provided only with one plank, one length of rope, and the specimens in vials that they must deliver safely. Points will be deducted if characters throw the samples, or if they are unsafely stashed.

2. QUICKSAND
Remember those specimens? Did you think that you were out of the woods yet? Out of the woods, into the quicksand. Characters will encounter a large pit of quicksand that stretches right across your path. Taking an alternative route will take too long, so your only choice is to go through it. Sticking out of the quicksand are wooden pillars, just at the right height to move across.

They’re just a little too long to jump over to, though. Once again characters will have two boards available to them, rope, and the specimens. Characters will have five minutes to develop a plan, and will be timed on its execution and its efficiency. Ready to show Tiger & Bunny your teamwork skills?

OBSTACLE COURSE (Phase #1)

[personal profile] celebred 2014-11-27 07:01 am (UTC)(link)

✖ CLASS: OBSTACLE COURSE (PHASE 1)
LEADS: N. Brown, L. T'Soni
SUMMARY: Basic obstacle course consisting of climbing, running etc. Includes rappelling basics, climate challenges, and fluctuating gravity acvities. The class comes in two rounds: Individual Knock-Out and Partnered.
LOG LINK: TBD

------

This course may or may not be handwaved, depending on interest!

TLDR; your leaders have decided to take your "basic" obstacle course training and make it a little bit more interesting. :)

PART ONE: INDIVIDUAL KNOCK-OUT
◾ LOCATION: Gravity Room
◾ The GR will be set to mimic the conditions they had faced during the rougher portions of their stay in Ajna, namely: sporadic fluctuations in the gravitational field, ranging from "I believe I can fly" to "I am one with the earth." Random flying objects (rocks, boulders, chairs, alien bodies???) will be tossed into the mix to provide the cadets with more "obstacles" to get through.
◾ Throughout all this, cadets will be expected to engage in a game of "knock out." Basically, each cadet must try to last as long as possible in the room's conditions without getting hit by one of the aforementioned flying objects. Once hit, they are considered "out." Last cadet standing is the winner.
◾ Cadets are allowed to use whatever they have at their disposal (powers, equipment, weapons, etc.)

Once the winner has been confirmed, the simulation is over. From this, N. Brown and L. T'soni will partner the cadets for the next portion of the class. (In the interest of fairness, partners are determined by their rank from the game: the winner will be partnered with the first out, second place with the second out, third place with the third out, so on and so forth.)

PART TWO: PARTNER TREK
◾ LOCATION: Virtual Reality Grid Room
◾ The VRG will be set to blizzard conditions with a terrain that contains: flat areas with thick, loosely compacted snow; high cliff lines covered in ice; forests of tall, dead trees; and a single, large hot spring area that they must cross. Each area will have exactly one type of animal (Earthen or otherwise) as extra obstacles to get through.
◾ With their partners, cadets must cross the terrain and make it to the finish line in one piece. There is no official time limit, but if you take longer than the rest of the day Nic will leave you there Liara will be Very Disappointed.
◾ Cadets are encouraged to use whatever is at their disposal to make it through the course. All they will be given from the leaders is one set of rappelling equipment each.

Before each portion of the class, the team leaders will give the cadets a briefing of what is to be expected of them, as well as a few helpful but admittedly very vague tips. They will not be present at all during Part One, but during Part Two, they are both available for help should any cadets ever call out for them. (The safeword is "lamb." Hi Shepard :D) They'll be able to watch and hear everyone from their positions by the control panel of the room (???), so if their assistance is ever required, they can intervene.

But they strongly, strongly suggest against asking for it unless it's absolutely necessary. :|

BASIC HAND-TO-HAND

[personal profile] wonk 2014-11-27 07:08 am (UTC)(link)

✖ CLASS: Unarmed Combat Exercises (Phase 1)
LEADS: G. Vakarian & R. Lalonde
SUMMARY: Basic hand-to-hand. Includes punching/kicking/blocking/dodging 101, drilling, sparring practice, throws, and more sparring practice, plus some teamwork exercises.
LOG LINK: here.

-------------------

there's a log for this one! many of the details are there, and you're free to plot here, tag in, and text roxy or garrus as you like.

copied directly from the log, the lesson plan is:

  1. Basic warm-up exercises

  2. Punching 101: basics of striking, blocking, and dodging. Kicks will also be covered, in spite of the name. Cadets will practice in pairs after instructors demonstrate.

  3. Practice drills, plus some advice on stances and basic sparring technique.

  4. Sparring practice, instructor-supervised.

  5. Basic instruction in throws, sweeps, and using the weight of larger opponents against them. Roxy will demonstrate on Garrus, and then cadets will practice in pairs.

  6. More sparring practice, instructor-supervised. This time around, one of them might pop into a match.

  7. Basic hand-to-hand teamwork principles. Cadets will spar instructors in groups of three.

TECHNOLOGY 101 (Basic)

[personal profile] crouton 2014-11-30 05:36 am (UTC)(link)

✖ CLASS: TECHNOLOGY 101 (Basic)

------

This course will be handwaved because it is so rudimentary and basic, but tutoring is available for characters who need more tech focus, such as those who may come from periods before computer-based technology existed. To sign up for this, reply to this comment OR drop a request in either Liara or John's IC inboxes.

Note that this course is required for all advanced technology courses (including things like Piloting or anything that might involve a computer or keypad) for the cadet's own safety, so they don't accidentally end up triggering a shutdown sequence on something more critical, or burn their next meal in their best friend's microwave. This course will also include the more basic functions of the blackglass, such as sending private messages and filtering to large groups on the network.

Safety gear is optional, and course will occur once a mission every time a new wave of recruits rolls in.

EXPLOSIVES TRAINING

[personal profile] ex_nearsighted397 2014-12-05 07:05 am (UTC)(link)

✖ CLASS: EXPLOSIVES TRAINING
LEADS: Garrus Vakarian, Barnaby Brooks Jr.
SUMMARY: This class will help familiarize recruits with the explosives that the CDC has to offer, both with regards to handling as well as arming and disarming them. There will be both fieldwork and theory involved (the latter sometimes in a classroom environment), and there will be separate tutoring available through either Lead if cadets need it.
LOG LINK: N/A right now.

-------

This class will be split into two sections: field and classroom-based work, covering the handling of explosives and how to use them. Notebooks will be provided to recruits, as they will be expected to go over their notes and do their homework outside of class time. (Fun, right?) Garrus and Barnaby will start right back at basics, even with recruits who have some knowledge; they'll then go over the use of CDC technology and help familiarize recruits with what they have available to them. Then it's all down to technique. Needless to say, this course involves a lot of practice work...

Both Leads will be available if recruits would like further one-on-one training; feel free to contact either of them through their inboxes, and they'll oblige.
